Raku & Obvara Firing (Members only)

  • The Arts Village 1240 Hinemaru Street Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, 3010 New Zealand (map)

Join us on Sunday, 10th May, for our next members-only raku firing. Bring your bisqueware along to decorate using our special club raku glazes, then watch the dramatic, fast-paced firing process unfold as our experienced members lead the kilns.

It’s a great opportunity to gather with the community, learn about the process, and take home some truly magical, unpredictable results.

We’ll also be running a special firing alongside the raku, with John Hackshaw leading an Obvara firing. If you’d like to take part, please note:

  • Open pieces (like vases) should have a wide opening

  • Closed pieces should only have very small pinprick holes to prevent water from entering during the process

Can’t make it on the day? No problem. Simply leave your prepared pieces on the designated raku shelf in the studio prior to the event, and our team will fire them for you.

Please note: As this firing takes place outdoors, the event is weather-dependent. Keep an eye out for updates.
